Deadly spider from Brazil...
Oh look, here's another one from last year! (And I wasn't even looking!) Deadly. Spiders. In the UK...
This one was found in a warehouse in Coventry, having arrived from Brazil. My favourite ones however are where there are more than one and they are breeding... Just images. Shudder.

Deadly spider hitches lift back to UK in traveller's coat pocket...
Here's a great story, especially if you like spiders as much as I do. I've travelled quite a bit in my time, and spent long periods in Africa. Last year I was lucky enough to get bitten by poisonous spiders twice... I'll save the details of those for another time, but ever since (and with good reason!) I've paid a little more attention to our eight legged friends. It's surprising how often poisonous exotic species appear in the UK...
Here's one from last week... classic spider hitches lift in travellers coat pocket (I mean just think about that for a minute!) from Australia to UK, and crawls out in cafe... I'd have died from shock just at the sight of it! I'll post a few more when I gave the chance (don't worry, there won't be any photos of spiders on this blog, but if you follow the link do so at your own risk...).

Desert Lions
Here's another excellent lion documentary, Desert Lions, part of the BBC Natural Word series, and narrated by the legend that is Sir David Attenborough.

The Last Lions
This is a very recent lion documentary (National Geographic, 2011), filmed by Dereck and Beverly Joubert in Botswana's Okavango Delta and following the story of a lone lionesses battle to raise her cubs. Stunning videography, and equally dramatic narration by Jermey Irons. Not sure what it is doing up on You Tube, we should all be buying the DVD, but anyway, on You Tube it is... well the first half is anyway, and you can find some more sections, but I couldn't find the end, so buy the DVD!
Washington Post article by Derek Joubert.
And a great interview here
The Last Lioness
Classic lion documentary from Liuwa in Zambia, telling the story of 'Lady Liuwa', the last lioness of Liuwa National Park, and the story of attempts to relocate lions back to the park to start up a breeding pride... all in one lovely chunck.
About time we had a sequal to this documentary!

Lions Behaving Badly
Talking of Africa, here are some lions. Filmed in Makalolo, in Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe, these lions are part of a lion dynasty recorded by researchers over many years. This National Geographic film is on You Tube in 4 easy bite sized segments. Here's the first...
Season of mist and mellow fruitfulness
Season of mist and mellow fruitfulness...
So said Keats (a dead poet apparently, there's probably a society about him somewhere).
Crap.
Season of rain and muddy puddles more like.
Nothing sums up the UK more than autumn. That slow decay as life's green growth sucums to the relentless forces of entropy. Dark gloomy days, warning of the even darker days of winter ahead.
The swallows have it right. Migrate. Africa. See you there.

ishmishbishbosh
On Googling 'ishmishbishbosh' I was surpirsed to find... nothing. Well now there is something.
'Ishmishbishbosh', as everyone knows, is a four stage event, much like crash, bang, whallop, where each individual event within the chain is linked to the other and by which one could not exist without the other and vise versa (so not like crash, bang, whallop, where you may discover a crash, or a bang, or a whallop, existing independently). Thereby you will never find an 'ish', 'mish, 'bish' or 'bosh' on their own - but only together as an 'inshmishbishbosh'.
Many 'ishmishbishbosh' event happen so quickly to our scales of human perception that they are only recently being discovered to science and lie within the relms of quantum physics (I'll explain all that later!). Other 'ishmishbishbosh' events happen over such great lengths of time that it is impossible for us to measure or comprehend them. The biggest, and probably best, example of which is the Creation, Expansion, Collapse and End of the universe.
So there you have it, a very useful scrabble word which really does need to be in the dictionary.

Hahaha! (evil laughter).
Why? Well I think all blogs should start with intention and purpose, and evil laughter sprang to mind as I mentally plotted my course to global blogging domination. I mean, you've got to think big hey.
Will this blog really be evil? I think not. Will it make you laugh? Perhaps. More likely cry however, (having the adavntage of inhabiting several extremes of the emotional spectrum, rather than any particular one or the other, and hence more likely by random chance alone. Laughter, it must be said, is pretty rare).
Here I propose to collect the random ramblings of my perfectly sane (which of course still leaves open the option of me being completely bonkers), and yet somewhat slanted perceptions on life, the universe and eveything (yep, might as well start off as well mean to go on!).
Now topic-wise we might jump about a bit, but over time I hope a few themes will develop and hopefully maybe even some intelligent thought and reflection on this wonderful modern world we have created for ourselves.
It has begun...
Oh, by the way, I'm random Bob, and these are my bits... and bobs.
